What Controls Do You Have in Place to Prevent Unauthorized Access to Your Installed Cameras?

Respecting people’s privacy is a big concern these days. That’s why your customers may want to know about the controls you have in place to protect their privacy. Perhaps they’re thinking about adding video surveillance to their security systems — or maybe they’ve installed cameras already. No doubt, they’ll appreciate your information and respect the value you place on ensuring their privacy.

As you may know, DMP’s Dealer Admin™ and Tech APP™ give authorized dealers and their staff a variety of features and resources that can help make it easier and faster to manage customers’ systems — but never at the expense of your customers’ privacy. Technicians will have the ability to see a cameras for 30 minutes after activation to complete the installation, but after 30 minutes, they will never have the ability to view the camera again. Cameras are only viewable with an end user login.

Blog_DA Custom Roles

Furthermore, while providing employees the information they need to do their jobs, by creating Custom Roles, you choose which of the features those individuals have permission to manage. For example, if you’ve created a field technician position that will only be responsible for activating cellular devices, you can create a Custom Role for that position. Naturally, you’d want to provide access to the cellular device information and probably customer and system information too. But the rest can be hidden, which prevents technicians from adding themselves as new app users on your customers’ systems.

Remember, with Dealer Admin’s 2.29 release and Tech APP 2.4 update, you can create Custom Roles for any member of your team. Like “Profiles” in the XR panels, you create them, you define them and you assign them to the individuals you want to have those permissions. For more information, click here.

Audit Reporting
From Dealer Admin’s Reporting & Analytics tab, you can search by email address from the All App Users tab. This helps you clear email addresses out of systems that were added then forgotten.

Video Verification
This is another feature that would be good to discuss with your customers. As you know, unless there is an active alarm, operators cannot self-initiate access to your customers’ cameras. And even then, the video verification application designed for monitoring centers only provides access to customers’ video cameras for a designated number of minutes before and after the alarm occurs. Therefore, when the alarm window expires, the camera views turn off. Certain cameras are able to be completely excluded from such video verification.

VPN for Video Cameras
DMP is one of the only security companies that leverages a Virtual Private Network (VPN) in its video product offerings. Using a VPN ensures that live video sent to SecureCom™ servers via the internet remains private — that’s because it encapsulates and encrypts the traffic before it’s sent over the internet to another network, thus keeping the user data secure and private. Data from the client’s camera or NVR is not decrypted until it’s received by SecureCom’s servers.

Onboard Storage for Video Clips
The V-4060DB Video Doorbell includes a pre-installed 16GB Micro SD Card, providing access to more than 2,000 stored video clips your customer can view anytime, anywhere through the Virtual Keypad app. The onboard storage keeps surveillance recordings secure, and even if the user’s Wi-Fi connection fails, the camera will continue to record when motion is detected or the doorbell is pressed.

To prevent unauthorized users from gaining access to your customers’ systems, we’ve put several controls in place — and we’re continuing to develop new ones. Above all else, we want you to have peace of mind when choosing DMP and SecureCom. We closely guard the trust you place in us — and in turn, the trust your customers place in you!
